TO RECOGNIZE LIFE
When the cunning birds peeked through the window to see I've got no-one,
they summoned the wind to bring hard times
that emptied my palms
and each of the hours.
All my past is killed.
My heart on a needle-pin stands on its toes, stuttering.
Finally we hold hands with life.
We join in an even song of creation and cessation.
