ORPHEUS That sad singer fulfilled his quest in infinite longing. He remained beneath, and exiled his shadow to wander under the sun, to serve the above-ground, and to yearn for the underground. Down below he learnt the muteness of the birds, the beasts, and the people. And in that language he spoke to the daytime dry imprints of the nighttime mind.
